Retention Rates

Omega Studios’ School calculates its retention rate using data reported to the U.S. Department of Education via the Integrated Post-secondary Education Data System (IPEDS) using fall enrollment data as defined by IPEDS. Retention rates examine the percentage of first-time certificate seeking students enrolled in the fall of the prior year that are either still enrolled in the fall of the current year or have completed their program in that time. Omega has two retention cohorts:

  •  Full-time, first-time certificate-seeking students
  •  Part-time, first-time certificate-seeking students

Omega reports data to IPEDS based on a program calendar because its student are continually enrolled from the start of the program to the end of the program. The retention rate is calculated using fall enrollment data. Program reporters determine the cohort to include students attending any time between August 1, 2014 and October 31, 2014 that are still enrolled or graduated as of August 1, 2015.

As instructed in IPEDS, students who meet the criteria below are excluded from the original cohort of students who were enrolled the previous fall when determining the retention rate:

  • Students who died or were totally and permanently disabled;
  • Students who left school to serve in the armed forces (including those called to active duty);
  • Students who left to serve with a foreign aid service of the Federal Government (e.g. Peace Corps);
  • Students who left or to serve on official church missions.

The formula for calculating the retention rate:

# of first-time, certificate-seeking students from the original fall cohort that are
still enrolled or graduated by August 1 of the subsequent year
—————————————————————————————————————————
# of first-time, certificate-seeking students from the original fall cohort
Multiplied by 100 to get the percentage
