Music Legend Arturo Sandoval Records at Omega Studios

It’s always a great session when it involves working with an icon of the industry.  I have had the opportunity at Omega Recording Studios to sit beside the likes of Elliot Scheiner and Frank Filipetti, as well as record musicians such as Marvin Stamm and Lou Reed.  Recently, fellow engineer Adam Stamper, intern Yave Rodriguez and I had one of those experiences.  Nine-time Grammy winner Arturo Sandoval, former protégé of Dizzy Gillespie, came in to lay down trumpet parts for Walt Disney Pictures “The Lone Ranger”, composed by Hans Zimmer.  Two legends in one session!

I would love to be able to say that Mr. Zimmer was here for the session, but sadly he was not.  Well…at least not physically.  The night before the session, Mr. Sandoval had a performance honoring Carole King as she received the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.  Since he was in this area and Mr. Zimmer was in California we used Skype and a 60” flat screen for the two to ‘meet up’ at the studio.
